KUALA LUMPUR: has no issue supporting the proposal to name Tan Sri Yassin as Perikatan Nasional (PN) Presidential Council chairman.

The party’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hasan, however, said the decision must be made among the presidents of the PN component parties.

“In the previous meeting, no decision was made on this matter. What was discussed was the powers or ‘jurisdiction’ of the Presidential Council, which were reviewed for further enhancement,” he said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters here today.

He was asked to comment on the proposal to name as the PN Presidential Council chairman, which was reported to have been agreed upon in a recent meeting between top and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaders, as well as himself.

Takiyuddin added that even if the matter was discussed, any decision should be made among the top PN leaders who are part of the PN Presidential Council.

“That meeting was outside a formal session. I imagine that when the Presidential Council convenes, they will appoint from among these four presidents, whether they agree or not.

“Any decisions made in that meeting would not apply. It has to be done in a formal Presidential Council meeting,” he said.

In addition to president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Muhyiddin, the PN Presidential Council also includes Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIPP) president P Punithan.

It was reported that PN is expected to establish its Presidential Council as a middle ground for Pas and Bersatu, while allowing Muhyiddin to continue playing a role in the coalition.

According to the reports, the decision is expected to see Muhyiddin assigned as PN Presidential Council chairman, while administrative duties will be handled by Pas.
