PETALING JAYA:

An aide to Prime Minister Ibrahim says appears to be enabling the violent conduct seen in yesterday’s forced eviction in Kampung Sungai Baru, which left a senior police officer injured.

information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari had earlier claimed the incident was an example of what could be expected if the Urban Renewal Act is enacted, urging the public to continue opposing the proposed law.

Kamil said this statement “seems to enable the violent and rude actions that took place in Kampung Sungai Baru earlier today”.

“To legitimise violence or physical aggression against security forces, when not a single resident was harmed by the authorities, is something that deserves condemnation and censure from all who love peace,” he said in a post on X.

Kamil criticised Fadhli for not mentioning or condemning the individuals who caused injuries.

“Is today determined to uphold a culture of extremist politics, remaining silent when security personnel are treated in such a way?

“PAS leaders who practise divisive politics must be firmly opposed and rejected for the sake of a peaceful and stable Malaysia,” he said.

Kamil called for a thorough investigation to be conducted so that the injured police officer will receive justice.

Earlier today, police arrested three suspects in connection with the commotion that occurred during the eviction of residents from 37 houses in Kampung Sungai Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail said the trio were allegedly involved in the commotion which resulted in Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman being struck on the head by an object flung at him.

Khalid said the senior officer was in stable condition after the incident.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the authorities were merely enforcing a writ of vacant possession issued by a court for 37 terrace houses in Kampung Sungai Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

Fourteen of the homeowners refused to vacate their homes and clashed with enforcement officers, resulting in Sulizmie being injured.
