Pas deputy president rejects claims party unfit to lead PN

KOTA BARU: deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has dismissed claims of internal turmoil within Perikatan Nasional (PN), stressing that there is no problem within the coalition at present.

He said leadership matters within PN are determined collectively by the coalition’s Supreme Council.

“There is no issue within PN at the moment. Leadership in the coalition is decided by the PN Supreme Council,” he said when commenting on claims that would not be accepted to lead the coalition.

Tuan Ibrahim, who is the Kubang Kerian member of parliament, also questioned the credibility of sources making such claims.

“I want to know which sources are saying this,” he said.

Responding to allegations that would not be accepted in Sabah and Sarawak, Tuan Ibrahim pointed to the party’s performance in Sabah’s last state election.

“In the Sabah state election, Pas was the only party that won seats. Pas was well accepted by the Sabah community,” he said.

He was responding to reports citing unnamed sources who claimed they would not accept Pas helming PN due to the party’s stance on issues affecting non-Muslims, and that it would be illogical for Pas to lead the coalition as it would not be accepted in Sabah and Sarawak.

It was reported that a rift is emerging within PN over the impending appointment of its new chief, with some parties within the coalition vehemently rejecting anyone from Pas as its chairman.

Sources indicated that the coalition could rupture if Pas insists on leading PN.

PN is expected to hold an extraordinary meeting at the Gerakan headquarters here at 8.30pm on Thursday.
