secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hasan confirmed the matter during a press conference here today.

“As confirmed by the Supreme Council meeting, the new PN chairman will not be the Pas president (Abdul Hadi).

“That is all I can say. As for who will be nominated, it is up to the Pas president to announce,” he said.

Asked whether the candidate would be Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also a Pas vice-president, Takiyuddin replied: “I am not in a position to declare that matter. Only the Pas president can announce it when the time comes.”

It was previously reported that speculation is rift that Pas was expected to nominate Ahmad Samsuri as one of the party’s candidates for the new PN chairman.

Speculation over the Pas vice-president’s selection intensified following Ahmad Samsuri’s recent meeting with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Yassin, who announced his resignation as PN chairman on Dec 29.
