PETALING JAYA: A Perikatan Nasional supreme council extraordinary general meeting (EGM) needs to be called immediately, says Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
In a letter sent out to all Perikatan deputy chairmen and supreme council members, the PAS president said the EGM is required to address former coalition chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation.
“For the purpose of continuation in administering Perikatan and as the coalition’s vice-chairman, I feel that we need to call a supreme council extraordinary general meeting as soon as possible.
“This is to fulfil the requirement under Article 8.3(l)(b) of Perikatan’s constitution, which is to accept and confirm the resignation of the chairman and to appoint a new chairman,” he said in the letter dated Jan 10.
“It is hoped that this matter is given the necessary attention and action as it has been more than 10 days since Muhyiddin stepped down,” he added.
According to Kedah Mentri Besar and Perikatan election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, Muhyiddin‘s resignation has yet to be finalised as it must be decided and approved in an official meeting.
Muhyiddin announced his resignation last month, which took effect on Jan 1, with several other state Perikatan chairmen also following suit.
The Pagoh MP is still Bersatu president.
Abdul Hadi, who is Marang MP, said he received Muhyiddin’s resignation letter on Dec 30, 2025.
“On behalf of PAS, we respect and accept Muhyiddin’s decision,” he said.
“We also expressed our highest appreciation for his services and contributions throughout his time in leading the coalition,” he added.
