MELAKA: Pas has yet to gain a clear understanding of Umno‘s proposal to form a “grand collaboration” aimed at uniting all Malay and Islamic political parties in the country.
Pas Central Committee member Tan Sri Annuar Musa said this was due to the lack of follow-up action by Umno, including the absence of meetings with top party leaders to discuss the proposed cooperation.
Annuar, who is also Pas central election deputy director, said that while the party did not oppose efforts to unite Malay parties, any form of collaboration required clear and comprehensive explanations, including details on the proposed “Rumah Bangsa” concept.
“At present, Pas is only learning about this through media reports from the recent Umno General Assembly. No follow-up action or official discussion has taken place.
“However, the party maintains an open stance towards any initiative aimed at strengthening unity. The principles, direction, and implementation must be clearly outlined before any decision is made,” he said after launching Prihatin Rakyat Melaka@Melaka in Bukit Katil today.
Also present were state Pas commissioner and Jasin MP Zulkifli Ismail, and his deputy, Tangga Batu MP Bakri Jamaluddin.
Previously, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno would invite 10 top leaders from each Malay and Islamic political party to initiate discussions on the grand collaboration in the near future.
The Barisan Nasional chairman added that no agreements or conditions had been set for the effort.
Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had earlier indicated that Pas was prepared to participate in the grand collaboration, provided it was under a government that fulfils its obligations in accordance with Allah’s decree.
Referring to Zahid’s remark that the Melaka state election would be the first platform to test the “Rumah Bangsa” concept through cooperation between Umno and Pas, Annuar said the details of the matter remained unclear.
“Pas welcomes any positive initiative, but this does not mean the party can commit without a full explanation of the concept. Past experience shows that collaborative efforts, such as Muafakat Nasional, produced outcomes different from what was expected,” he added.
