KUALA LUMPUR: Cooperating with other political coalitions does not mean will remain as just followers, says Wanita chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

Noraini said must always be at the core of leadership, noting the party’s experience in leading the country.

“Don’t be confused when we speak about political cooperations. It does not mean we are weak.

“We must work hard to retain our strengths and stay relevant.

“We must take the lead,” she said in her policy speech when opening the Wanita Umno wing at the Umno annual general assembly held at the World Trade Centre on Thursday (Jan 15).

Umno, Noraini said, practises a brand of mature politics – one that is brave enough to set the “red lines” when it comes to defending religion, race and the constitutional monarchy.

“This is not a rushed decision. Every risk has been weighed and opportunities must be seized.

“Umno understands its principles and responsibilities,” she said, stressing the wing’s unwavering support for party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno general assembly is being held from Jan 14 to Jan 17.
