Dr Wan Azizah calls on parents to actively monitor children’s emotions and social interactions, emphasising love, religious guidance and open communication
PUTRAJAYA: Parents must play an active role in monitoring their children’s emotions and social interactions amid today’s digital challenges.
The Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said recent concerning incidents involving children highlight the urgent need for serious attention from all parties.
“Whenever such incidents go viral, we are left wondering what is happening to our children,” she said during her speech at the launch of the 2025 National Family Month celebration.
She noted that children today face increasingly complex pressures from social media, peers and mental health challenges.
Dr Wan Azizah emphasised that the family remains the foremost safeguard against these challenges.
Although parents cannot control every aspect of the outside world, they can shape the home environment by cultivating love and addressing children’s needs mindfully.
“Another key aspect I wish to emphasise in fostering harmonious families is the guidance of religion, noble values and good character,” she added.
She urged parents to be observant about school activities and social circles while monitoring children’s social media usage.
Parents should recognise changes in their children’s emotions or behaviour and create non-judgemental spaces for sharing thoughts.
Dr Wan Azizah also launched the KASIH MADANI 2.0 initiative to strengthen spousal relationships and highlight fathers’ roles as family cornerstones.
The National Population and Family Development Board developed the programme with academics and family experts.
KASIH MADANI 2.0 features two core modules: Romantika Cinta for newlyweds and Kebapaan tailored specifically for fathers.
The 2025 National Family Month celebration embraces KASIH values including love, noble character, healthy lifestyle, knowledge pursuit and harmonious environment. – Bernama
