Papar landslide: Search ends as last victim found dead after 10 hours

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 16 — After more than 10 hours of search and rescue efforts, the last victim of the landslide in Kampung Marahang Tuntul, Papar was found at 8.45 pm, with the operation concluding at 2.05 am.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Pisar Aziz, said the last victim, a 10-year-old girl, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The incident, which occurred at 9.20 am yesterday involved a mother and her two children who were reported to have been buried under the debris.

The first victim, a 34-year-old woman, was found at 4.20 pm while her six-year-old son was located five minutes later.

He said the Papar Fire and Rescue Station team arrived at the scene at 9.34 am after receiving a call regarding the landslide involving a house at 9.20 am.

“The victims were extricated by the fire and rescue team, with assistance from other rescue units.

“All victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel and the bodies were handed over to the police  for further action,” he said in a statement today.

The discovery of the little girl brings the total number of fatalities from the landslide in Sabah since last Friday to 13. — Bernama
