Pang Ron-Su Yin tested but prevail in Paris opener

KUALA LUMPUR: Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin were made to sweat before advancing to the mixed doubles last 16 at the World Championships on Wednesday.

The world No. 16 overcame unheralded German opponents Malik Bourakkadi-Leona Michalski 21-10, 18-21, 21-12 in a three-game battle at the Adidas Arena in Paris.

After cruising through the first game, Pang Ron-Su Yin faltered in the second but quickly regained composure to dominate the decider and secure their passage.

The Malaysians, however, will need to raise their level if they are to mount a serious challenge deeper into the tournament.

Local fans will now be hoping for an all-Malaysian third-round clash, with compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie scheduled to take on Thailand’s Pakkapon Teeraratsakul-Phataimas Muenwong later today.
