KUALA LUMPUR: Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin found the going tough against world No. 2 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping, bowing out of the Hong Kong Open quarter-finals in straight games on Friday.
The world No. 14 went down 21-16, 21-10 for their third successive defeat to the Chinese duo, who have captured 15 World Tour titles together.
Despite the setback, it has still been an encouraging campaign for Pang Ron-Su Yin, who came within a whisker of a historic breakthrough at the recent World Championships in Paris, where they reached the quarter-finals.
That run marked a turning point after a barren spell in which they failed to get past the last 16 in six consecutive tournaments between March and July.
Their resurgence has come at the right time, with the pair heading to the China Masters next week hoping to rediscover the form that carried them to their career-best run — reaching the final of the Super 750 event in Shenzhen last November.
