KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — Police have seized the mobile phone of a senior assistant teacher at a national school in an Orang Asli settlement in Pekan, Pahang, to assist investigations into the alleged physical sexual assault of a male pupil.
Pekan district police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the phone was confiscated at about 10pm on September 13 to investigate whether the teacher had stored obscene videos and images, according to online news portal BuletinTV3.
He said the seizure followed a police report lodged by the mother of a pupil from a school in Chini, alleging that the male teacher had sexually assaulted her son.
The incident came to light after the 11-year-old victim told his mother what had happened once he returned from a cultural performance in the district on September 13.
“According to the report, the assault took place on September 12, when the teacher was assigned to accompany 11 pupils for a cultural performance. They stayed overnight at a training centre hostel.
“At around 10pm, the teacher allegedly sexually assaulted the boy and invited him to his bed.
“The 45-year-old suspect is accused of committing an indecent act against the child,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Zaidi said the teacher was remanded for a week to assist the investigation.
He was released on police bail yesterday, and the investigating officer will submit the case file to the Pahang police contingent headquarters for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
