IPOH: Police are investigating the discovery of a package believed to contain human remains near an Orang Asli cemetery in Kampung Kerawat, along Jalan Simpang Pulai–Cameron Highlands, today.
District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, said a 28-year-old local man lodged a report after villagers informed him of the discovery.
“Initial investigations with the state police forensic unit confirmed that a package was found snagged on a tree branch by the riverbank,” he said in a statement tonight.
He said further inspection revealed that the package was believed to contain human remains.
“The identity of the deceased has yet to be established. The case has been classified as a sudden death report (SDR), pending post-mortem results to determine whether there are elements of foul play,” he said.
Abang Zainal Abidin also urged the public not to speculate on the case to avoid disrupting police investigations.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Simpang Pulai police station chief Inspector Tai Zhe Jin at 019-5448601,” he added.
