KUALA LUMPUR: Oppstar Bhd and its unit, AIRIS Labs Sdn Bhd, have signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Taiwan-listed Inventec Corporation and its subsidiary, AsicAI Co Ltd.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing, Oppstar said the collaboration will focus on designing and developing next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) network processing chips.
The MoU sets out plans to co-develop an AI edge computing processor for advanced computing, networking servers, devices, and applications.
Under the first MoU, Oppstar and AIRIS Labs will contribute their integrated circuit (IC) design capabilities and technical support.
Inventec will contribute system integration know-how, market access and commercialisation channels. AsicAI will take the lead on chip architecture and contribute its proprietary neural processing unit (NPU) intellectual property.
In the second MoU, AIRIS Labs and AsicAI plan to establish a joint venture within 90 days to execute the project, pending due diligence and internal approvals.
Oppstar said AsicAI will take charge of defining the chip architecture and contribute its proprietary intellectual property related to neural processing units, along with its integration expertise.
The plan is to explore opportunities under government initiatives, including the ARM Ltd compute subsystem programme, to leverage resources, incentives, and technical support.
“The collaboration between the parties will provide greater synergy and business sustainability through the expansion of its presence and strengthen the profile of Oppstar and its subsidiaries.
“The collaboration is expected to contribute positively to the future growth of the company,” the group said.
