KUALA LUMPUR: The Opposition is holding off on tabling a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over his comments on the Batu Puteh issue.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said during a press conference in Parliament on Thursday (Aug 7) that they would wait for the outcome of a referral to the Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee.
“Our first step was to refer the Tambun MP no-confidence (Anwar) to the Rights and Privileges Committee. Now, we’re waiting to see how the Speaker responds.
“Only then will we consider our next move, including whether to proceed with a no-confidence motion,” he said.
Anwar had made some remarks about former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the long-standing dispute over Batu Puteh, which Perikatan Nasional claimed was a breach of Parliamentary privilege.
The motion to refer Anwar to the committee was submitted by Perikatan chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
