KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested 11 people, including 10 enforcement officers and a retired officer, for allegedly accepting bribes to expedite applications under the Labour Recalibration Programme (RTK).
According to sources, the suspects, seven men and four women aged between 30 and 50, were detained at several locations around the Klang Valley today during an operation codenamed Op Bleach carried out by the MACC’s Intelligence Division.
“The suspects are believed to have received bribes in exchange for speeding up the processing of applications for undocumented migrants seeking to be legalised as foreign workers under the RTK programme,” the source said.
Op Bleach, the source added, was a follow-up to earlier operations Op Rentas and Op Dygo, which targeted syndicates manipulating official systems through counter setting.
Following the arrests, MACC seized over RM116,000 in cash, 14 mobile phones, jewellery and gold bars, three cars and two motorcycles.
MACC Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin confirmed the arrests, saying the case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009.
He said all suspects will be brought before the Putrajaya magistrate’s court tomorrow for remand proceedings.
