SEPANG: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) aerotrain system has experienced only four disruptions since operations began on July 1.

Malaysia Airports managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said one incident each was recorded in July and September, and two in October.

Previously, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said that the aerotrain at KLIA Terminal 1 experienced 19 incidents between July 2 and Sept 30.

Izani said there were only four glitches that caused actual disruptions.

“Let me clarify once and for all. The 19 glitches, whether minor or major, are what we are obligated to report to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

“The four glitches are the ones that caused the train to halt, while the rest are minor issues, such as system errors that require recalibration,” he said.

Izani said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) one-month comprehensive aerotrain action plan aimed to address all issues it encountered since July.

“We want to ensure the system’s safety and reliability,” he said at a media briefing on the action plan.

Izani said that the comprehensive action plan is designed to resolve all previously identified issues ahead of Visit Malaysia Year.

“We are very mindful of Visit Malaysia Year. Despite the incidents, passenger flow has remained smooth and no one has missed their flights according to our records,” he said.

Also present was Malaysia Airports chief airports officer Bryan John Thompson.
