SHAH ALAM: A bust of a Sungai Buloh call centre has led to the arrest of 34 suspects.

police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar, at a press conference at the police contingent headquarters, said that the raid was conducted on Saturday (Aug 30) at a home in Sunway Rahman Putra at around 5.10am.

Of the 34 people arrested, only one was Malaysian.

“It is believed that this online gambling calling centre has been operating for around four months. None of the suspects were found with prior police records.

“The premises caretaker and manager of the group were paid around RM5,000 a month while the rest netted about RM2,000 a month,” he said.

Numerous electronic equipment were seized, including 21 computers and 22 handphones.

Investigations showed that the suspects would masquerade as women to entice customers to gamble on a set platform.

All bets and bank matters were conducted over WhatsApp, and it is believed that the group profited around RM2,000 to RM2,500 per day.

“All have been remanded until today (Wednesday) and we have requested an extension,” he said.
