PETALING JAYA: A police officer was shot and stabbed during a struggle with a suspect in Simpang Pulai, Ipoh, leading to the discovery of a deceased woman in the suspect’s vehicle.
The incident happened at approximately 1.15am when officers from the Simpang Pulai Police Station attempted to stop a car in Taman Desa Pakatan.
The driver refused to stop, leading police on a chase that ended in an oil palm plantation.
During the confrontation, the suspect and a 26-year-old officer struggled, resulting in the suspect seizing the officer’s firearm.
The suspect then shot and stabbed the officer in the abdomen before escaping with the weapon.
The injured policeman is in stable condition and is receiving treatment at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).
Following the suspect’s escape, police inspected the abandoned vehicle and found the body of a woman in the back seat.
The woman’s identity has not been released, and her body has been taken to the HRPB Forensic Department for identification and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin confirmed that authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
The police are urging anyone with information about the case to contact Assistant Superintendent Fadli Ahmad at 012-2500019 to aid in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under several sections of the law, including Section 302/307 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
