KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a nursery teacher in Bandar Rimbayu, Selangor, for allegedly physically and mentally abusing a two-year-old child under her care.
Kuala Langat police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said the incident came to light when the child’s mother was informed by another teacher at the nursery that her child had allegedly been abused.
Akmalrizal said the teacher allegedly dragged the child from the classroom to the toilet by pulling the child’s hair. The teacher also struck the child with a small food cover and a water bottle. The complainant requested CCTV footage as proof before lodging a police report.
“On Aug 22, after reviewing the CCTV, the complainant confirmed the incident occurred as described earlier. She then discussed the matter with her family and lodged the report on Aug 24 for reference by the nursery,” he said in a statement today.
He said the suspect, a 38-year-old local woman, was later arrested.
“The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction,” he said.
Police have urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Kuala Langat police at 03-3187 2222.
