
The number of flood evacuees in Sabah dropped this morning, although river levels in several parts of Sarawak remain above the danger mark.
In Sabah, the number of evacuees dropped to 2,602 people from 806 families at 22 temporary relief centres (PPS), from 3,325 people from 964 families yesterday evening.
The Sabah state disaster management committee said the remaining evacuees were being housed at the 22 PPS across six districts: Beaufort, Penampang, Membakut, Papar, Putatan and Sipitang.
“Penampang recorded a decrease in the number of flood evacuees while the other five districts remained unchanged,” it said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department forecast no rain this morning in Sabah, although thunderstorms are expected this afternoon in the interior and tonight across several other areas.
In Sarawak, the disaster management secretariat of the civil defence force reported that 13 people from three families were still sheltering at Dewan Suarah Marudi as of 6am today.
The Public Info Banjir website reported that the level of the river in Long Teru remained at 9.13m, exceeding the 8m danger level and showing an upward trend.
In Marudi, the river level stood at 4.38m, exceeding the 3.25m danger level, while in Lubok Piasau II, Limbang, it remained at 2.24m, surpassing the 2.20m danger mark.
