KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a white Toyota Vios has sparked outrage among Malaysian social media users after a video of the car using the dedicated motorcycle lane along the Federal Highway near Petaling Jaya went viral yesterday.
The incident, which occurred near the Jalan P.P. Narayanan junction and continued up to the Asia Jaya interchange, was captured on video by a motorcyclist travelling behind the vehicle.
The driver was seen existing the motorcycle lane at the first possible chance, joining the three lane highway.
The 58-second clip, posted on the “Dash Cam Malaysia” Facebook group, shows the car taking up the entire width of the narrow lane.

The video quickly garnered many views and shares, with netizens condemning the driver’s blatant disregard for road safety and traffic regulations.
Social media users were quick to vent their frustration in the comments section:
“Some people have zero civic sense. That lane is already narrow (even) for two bikes to pass, a car is just a disaster waiting to happen,” said one user.
Another remarked that avoiding a jam is no excuse to endanger the lives of vulnerable motorcyclists, especially when there is no congestion.
“The classic ‘Waze brought me here’ excuse incoming. No matter the reason, this is an illegal and highly dangerous,” said another user.
