#NSTviral: Teacher shares heartbreak after students fail English exam, scoring less than 10%

KUALA LUMPUR: A secondary school teacher has expressed his disappointment after several of his Form One students failed their English Language exams, with one scoring zero.

In a Threads post, user @huzaidharis shared photos of three exam papers that received marks of 9, 5, and 0, respectively.

“I don’t know. Maybe I’m not fit to be an English teacher,” he wrote.

Huzaid also added personal notes on each paper, encouraging his students to try harder and put more effort into their studies.

The post quickly drew messages of encouragement from netizens, who reassured the teacher that he was doing his best.

User @syaza_agnes suggested that the students may be facing issues at home that could be affecting their performance.

She recommended Huzaid try new teaching approaches, such as journaling or designing lessons more relatable to students’ lives.

“Get to know them and create lessons that connect with their experiences.

“For instance, I once taught essay writing by asking students to describe their mothers.

“For energisers, do something creative and enjoyable when entering class. Get them to start writing and talking.

“Don’t give up – all the best,” she said.

Another user, @sskye.__, whose mother was an English teacher, said Huzaid should not blame himself.

“I saw how hard my mother tried to help her students – she literally gave them free answers, and all they had to do was memorise them.

“But some were just arrogant and lazy.

“With students like that, no matter how much you try to help, if they don’t change their attitude, there’ll be no progress,” she said.

Meanwhile, @endyhazm shared her own experience of being criticised by a parent after leaving a note on a student’s paper.

“The parent texted me angrily, saying I had affected their child emotionally.

“The note I wrote said, ‘We did this multiple times, but you still chose to leave it blank? You won’t go far with this kind of attitude!'” she said.
