KUALA LUMPUR: A simple yet heartfelt gesture by a 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate has touched the hearts of thousands online.

In a video uploaded by TikTok user @sarakiroro, who is also a teacher, a student who achieved straight As took the time to pose for photos with the canteen ‘makcik’ and ‘kakak’ — the beloved women who served meals throughout his school years.

In the video, the student, still in his school uniform, is seen beaming alongside the canteen staff. The smiles on their faces are infectious, with the canteen staff radiating pride and joy, as though they were part of the achievement themselves.

Also present in this heartwarming moment were individuals believed to be the student’s parents, witnessing their son’s success and his act of gratitude.

“Who would have thought, among so many people, he chose to take a picture with the canteen makcik and kakak. This is what we call appreciation. I was surprised and never expected this from my student,” the teacher wrote in the caption.

She said that she was sitting in the canteen having a drink with a few other teachers when she witnessed the moment.

“This video aims to inspire people to appreciate and respect one another, regardless of their backgrounds. Good job, Le Qian; your attitude touches my heart,” she wrote.

Le Qian’s heartfelt gesture has since received widespread praise for highlighting the importance of gratitude, reminding everyone that success is shared and celebrated with those who have supported you along the way.

User @amira_dandelion commented: “Well done to his parents for raising him right. Le Qian’s father and mother, you truly have every reason to be proud of yourselves.”

Another user, @_faizazmi93, said: “I work at the MRSM PDRM café. After collecting their SPM 2023 and 2024 results, the students came straight to the kitchen to see us, the café staff. Honestly, I was deeply touched that they didn’t forget about us throughout their time here.”

User @moonjuice.x wrote: “Congratulations to Le Qian on his excellent results, and congratulations as well to his parents for successfully raising such a kind and respectful son.”
