There has been no interference or influence from outside parties in decisions made by the Cabinet, said government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi said claims suggesting that certain individuals had influenced government decisions were completely untrue, adding that all Cabinet discussions are classified and cannot be disclosed.
The communications minister was refuting allegations by former economy minister Rafizi Ramli in a recent podcast that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s former political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, held significant influence over government decisions.
“There is absolutely no outside interference in Cabinet decisions,” Fahmi told reporters after attending a Merdeka event at the Pasar Seni LRT station today.
“I attend almost every Cabinet meeting (and) no other party has influence or involvement (in Cabinet decisions).”
Fahmi also said Cabinet discussions are classified and warned that those discussing them could face action under the Official Secrets Act 1972 (OSA).
“The OSA would apply if any information from Cabinet meetings was disclosed (to others). A police report can be lodged, and the authorities will take action,” he said.
Rafizi had said earlier that perceptions of outside influence in Cabinet decisions were dangerous and needed to be addressed properly.
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad resigned from their Cabinet posts after losing the PKR deputy president and vice-president’s posts, respectively, in the party elections in May.
Rafizi was the former economy minister, while Nik Nazmi held the natural resources and environmental sustainability portfolio.
