SEPANG:

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul says he has not received any motions filed by Pagoh MP Yassin to refer Prime Minister Ibrahim to the Dewan Rakyat’s rights and privileges committee regarding his remark on petrol subsidies.

told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that he would file a motion if did not apologise for saying on Tuesday that Muhyiddin, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, had supported calls for foreigners to enjoy RON95 fuel subsidies

“If anything is submitted to me, God willing, I will look into it and take further action in accordance with the (Dewan Rakyat’s) Standing Orders,” Johari told reporters at an event here today.

“So far, I have not received anything.”

On Tuesday, Sinar Harian quoted Anwar as telling the Dewan Rakyat that Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president, had questioned the government for burdening foreigners by not allowing them to enjoy RON95 petrol subsidies despite making significant contributions to the country.

Muhyiddin later denied making such a statement and urged Anwar to furnish proof of his claim, adding that PN had always maintained that subsidy benefits should prioritise the interests of Malaysians.

Yesterday, Johari told the Dewan Rakyat that he had received a letter from Anwar directing the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate the origin of the information.

In a statement, MCMC said it had contacted Muhyiddin, a former prime minister, to record his statement as part of its probe. The internet regulator also said that Muhyiddin would be questioned as a witness.

“The probe does not include any claims or allegations levelled against him,” it said.
