PEATLING JAYA:
The Attorney-General’s Chambers said the full pardon Anwar Ibrahim obtained from the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong meant he had never committed any wrongdoing.
“Therefore, the issue revolving around Anwar‘s eligibility as the Tambun MP or prime minister does not arise,” it said in a statement this evening.
The AGC was responding to a former federal minister’s bid to disqualify Anwar as an MP and his appointment as the prime minister.
In a suit filed at the High Court on Tuesday, lawyer P Waytha Moorthy argued that the royal pardon granted to the PKR president in 2018 did not state that he was exempt from the five-year disqualification period for contesting an election after being released from prison.
