SHAH ALAM:

Bersatu president Yassin has emphasised that there are no “camps” within the party, following the chaos that broke out during his keynote address at the party’s annual general assembly last night.

He said this when asked about calls by some of the party’s delegates for him to resign as president.

“There is no camp A, camp B or camp C,” he said.

In his speech at the Ideal Convention Centre here last night, revealed that some quarters were collecting signatures to oust him.

He said if signatures could be collected to unseat the president, the same could be done against other leaders in the party.

“Division chiefs, Armada chiefs, Srikandi chiefs, Srikandi Muda chiefs, associate chiefs and all division committee members could face the same fate,” he said.

At that point, a small group called on Muhyiddin to step down, and were quickly intercepted by party officials who escorted them out of the hall.

In response to the group calling for Muhyiddin’s resignation, the majority of the delegates broke out into chants of “Hidup Tan Sri” in his support.

Commenting on the incident later, Muhyiddin said he was not sure what had happened as he was focused on his speech.

He said he will get a complete picture of the incident from the security officers on duty before taking further action.

“I am thankful I was able to finish my speech,” he said, adding the assembly had proceeded smoothly overall.
