KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 8 (Bernama) — The three-day Newor@Kampung Budaya Terengganu (KBT) 2025 Festival, kicking off today, is expected to attract around 20,000 visitors.
Organised by Terrapuri Heritage Village (Palms Garden Beach Resort), the festival is held with the support and cooperation of the Terengganu State Tourism Department, Terengganu Cultural Village and Tourism Malaysia.
Terengganu State Tourism Department director Hilman Hajijan said the festival was held to bring the community closer to local arts and cultural products, some of which are gradually being forgotten.
“This festival brings together players from the tourism as well as the arts and culture sectors, offering a platform to showcase local products such as batik, traditional food and handicrafts.
“In addition, visitors can take part in traditional games, including a gasing competition, and learn about martial arts such as silat,” he told reporters after the launch of the Newor@KBT Festival 2025 at Terengganu Cultural Village here today.
Also present were Terengganu National Department for Culture and Arts director Zubariah Abdullah and Terrapuri Heritage Village (Palms Garden Beach Resort) managing director Alex Lee Yun Ping.
Explaining that ‘newor’ means to stroll or take a walk in the Terengganu dialect, Hilman said the festival not only offers young people a chance to discover and appreciate local heritage, but also provides a platform to showcase Terengganu as a premier heritage and eco-tourism destination ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
“The Newor@KBT Festival, entering its third year, is also a platform to prepare for the successful launch of the Visit Terengganu Year 2027 campaign.
“The turnout on the festival’s opening day has been very encouraging. We therefore invite all members of the community both local and from outside Terengganu, to join in and further enliven the festival with the various activities available,” he said.
