PETALING JAYA: The newly opened East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) will be toll-free for one month from the eve of National Day to Sept 29, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said that this was in conjunction with National Day and announced it on Friday (Aug 29) during his speech while officiating the Section 1: EKVE Sungai Long Interchange – Ampang Interchange on Friday (Aug 29).
“There will be a one-month (30-day) toll-free period, starting from 6am on Aug 30 until 11:59pm on Sept 29,” said Anwar.
Section 1 of EKVE is a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction, featuring four grade-separated interchanges, namely the Sungai Long Interchange, Bandar Mahkota Cheras Interchange, Hulu Langat Interchange, and Ampang Interchange, along with four toll plazas and two lay-bys.
Earlier at the event, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that Section 1 of EKVE will connect major suburban areas without requiring commuters to enter the city centre.
He said that the EKVE is expected to reduce travel time from Ampang to Kajang to just 20 minutes.
Nanta further said that Section 1 – a part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) – on the eastern side, has been designed as an alternative route connecting areas like Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat and Ampang.
“Section 1 of the EKVE begins at the Sungai Long Interchange and ends at the Ampang Interchange.
“This expressway is one of the country’s key infrastructure projects, particularly significant in strengthening the road network around the Klang Valley.
“This section includes four interchanges located at Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat, and Ampang, with two lay-bys.
“The stretch comprises 16.8 km of the main carriageway and 8.4 km of connecting roads for the four interchanges.
“Section 2, which will connect this route directly to Ukay Perdana, is currently under active development. Once completed, it will finalise the full 39km EKVE route as planned in the original development blueprint,” said Nanta.
