New site ready for Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple relocation

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has finalised preparations for a new site to relocate the Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple to make way for the Masjid Madani development, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh.

In a statement today, Yeoh said the mosque development and the temple relocation were being implemented in an orderly manner, in accordance with the law and interfaith harmony.

She said the government had ensured the continuity of religious practices by providing the new site and expediting all necessary approvals.

“All building plan approvals were granted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on Sept 17, 2025, followed by the gazettement of the new site as a Non-Islamic House of Worship on Dec 5, 2025,” she said.

Approval to construct a building on the land was subsequently issued by the Federal Territories Kuala Lumpur Land Working Committee on Jan 14.

Yeoh said operational-level coordination involving all relevant agencies and stakeholders was ongoing, with a meeting scheduled for today to finalise relocation arrangements and construction matters.

She added that discussions with all parties would continue regularly, particularly after the Thaipusam celebrations, to ensure the process proceeds smoothly.

Yeoh expressed appreciation to former Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and former Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Sharif for their roles in securing the new site.

She also acknowledged Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan and Malaysian Sangam president Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr S.A. Vigneswaran for their commitment to preserving harmony.

She said the approach reflected the administration’s commitment to managing differences in a mature manner anchored on mutual respect.
