SARAJEVO: Another person has died from injuries sustained in the fire that broke out at the retirement home in Tuzla, northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), on Nov 4, bringing the total number of fatalities to 13, the University Clinical Centre (UKC) Tuzla said on Friday, reported Xinhua.
According to the hospital, the patient, who had been treated at the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Reanimatology, passed away late Thursday. Over a dozen patients remain hospitalised at UKC Tuzla, including one person on mechanical ventilation.
The Tuzla Canton Prosecutor’s Office announced that the on-site investigation had been completed on Thursday and that the findings will be submitted to the cantonal Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Police Sector.
Seven women and six men were killed in the blaze, all aged over 67 years old, announced the prosecutor’s office. Preliminary autopsy results showed that 11 victims died of suffocation and carbon monoxide poisoning, while one person suffered burns.
A Day of Mourning has been declared in Tuzla until Nov 9, and the city government will cover the funeral and burial expenses of the victims. — BERNAMA-XINHUA
