PUTRAJAYA: The Home Affairs Ministry will begin a five-month trial of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) at key entry points from Sept 22, to Feb 28, next year.
The pilot will start at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) and Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) in Johor before expanding to five major international airports, including KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, Penang International Airport, Kuching International Airport in Sarawak, and Kota Kinabalu International Airport in Sabah.
“Throughout the NIISe trial period, the existing QR Code system and MyBorderPass application will continue to be used.
“However, the public, including foreign visitors, are encouraged to download the MyNIISe application,” the ministry said.
The app is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei App Gallery.
The ministry reminded travellers that valid passports remain mandatory under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“At the end of the trial period, the NIISe system will replace the existing QR Code system,” it added.
The ministry described NIISe as one of the key initiatives under the government’s reform agenda and said the rollout was brought forward from March next year to September this year to enhance automated security screening.
“The Home Affairs Ministry remains committed to strengthening the nation’s border control for the safety, smooth travel, and convenience of the people, in line with the aspirations of the Madani government,” the statement added.
