KUANTAN: Several main roads around Kuantan city will be closed in stages from Aug 27 to 29 to make way for preparations and rehearsals for the Pahang-level 68th National Day celebration.

Kuantan district police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 26) that the roads involved are Jalan Mahkota, Jalan Besar, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Taman, Jalan Bukit Ubi and Jalan Tanah Putih.

“To ensure smooth traffic flow on the day of the celebration, several diversions and road barricades will also be installed at several key locations,” he said, adding that the celebration will take place on Aug 31 from 6am to 1pm at Padang MBK 1, Taman Kerang here.

He said the traffic diversions would involve routes from Jalan Tanah Putih to Jalan Wong Ah Jang, Jalan Tanjung Lumpur to Jalan Gambut, and Jalan Gambut to Jalan Bukit Ubi.

“Road barriers will be placed on Jalan Taman, the U-turn at the Malaysian Civil Defence Department, and Jalan Mahkota towards the Kuantan Parade junction,” he said.

Ashari advises the public to plan their journeys throughout the affected period, in addition to cooperating and complying with traffic instructions issued by the authorities.

In other developments, he said a 38-year-old female teacher lost nearly RM200,000 after being deceived by a syndicate impersonating officers from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police.

Ashari said the victim received a call from the individual in June and claimed the woman’s number was involved in the spread of false information and money laundering.

“The suspect deceived the victim into taking out a personal loan of RM265,000 from a bank on Jalan Putra Square on June 25, allegedly for investigation purposes,” he said.

He also said that after checking with the bank, it was found that the money in the victim’s account had been transferred 21 times to third-party bank accounts between July 2 and 3, resulting in a total loss of RM199,994.

According to him, the victim had made a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters and that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
