Nanta urges NCR landowners to develop, not sell their land

Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi advises NCR landowners to develop their land for long-term benefits rather than selling for short-term gain

KAPIT: Native Customary Rights (NCR) land should be protected and developed rather than sold for short-term financial gain, Public Works Minister Datk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said today.

He described NCR land as a family legacy that can generate sustainable income and improve community wellbeing.

“I would like to remind recipients, don’t sell the land given,” he stated during a title deed presentation ceremony for Kapit Division.

Nanta urged landowners to utilize government assistance programmes through the Sarawak Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Ministry.

He also encouraged participation in various economic initiatives designed to help NCR settlers increase their agricultural production.

The Kapit MP cautioned the public against parties attempting to politicise NCR issues for their own gain.

“Don’t let us be influenced by narratives that put the government’s efforts in bad light,” he emphasized.

Nanta noted that the government has been systematically implementing NCR land programmes for over a decade.

The NCR Land Measuring programme operates in two stages: perimeter measurement and gazettement, followed by individual lot measurement and title issuance.

As of October 31, 2025, the Sarawak Land and Survey Department has measured over 1.22 million hectares of NCR land perimeters.

Approximately 947,000 hectares have been gazetted, with 106,467 individual lots measured and titles issued for 34,507 lots.

Today’s ceremony saw 245 title deeds distributed to 156 recipients from Sungai Ibau, Sungai Belawai and Sungai Menuan areas in Batang Rajang. – Bernama
