Nanta Reminds Song JKKK To Avoid Misusing Government Funds

KAPIT, Sept 14 (Bernama) — Works Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi has reminded the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) in the Song area to avoid misusing government allocations.

The Kapit member of parliament said JKKKs must ensure that assistance is utilised effectively for the local community’s benefit, with an emphasis on proper governance, including the preparation of expenditure reports.

“The assistance we provide is for the well-being of the community. Use it prudently, report its usage transparently and never misuse it,” he said.

He said this at the JKKK Cheque and Student Incentives handover ceremony, alongside Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan, in Song today.

At the ceremony, RM448,000 was channelled to 45 JKKKs in the Song area, with areas under village head Vincent Jugah receiving RM174,500, while areas under village head Sumpeng Jinggai received RM273,500.

The assistance was disbursed in the form of RM500 for each door (family) of a longhouse, ensuring that no family was left off the recipient list.

Nanta also disbursed incentives amounting to RM52,500 to 105 students from Song district pursuing studies at higher education institutions.

Several non-governmental organisations in the area also received financial assistance.

He urged the younger generation, particularly students in Song and Kapit, to take advantage of the state government’s policy that will fully fund the studies of Sarawakian students at universities and higher learning institutions in the Borneo state starting next year.

In a separate development, Nanta said that the Ulu Katibas Bridge construction at Sungai Bangkit, costing RM35 million, has already been tendered, while the construction of a seven-kilometre road, costing RM70 million, will be tendered soon.
