PETALING JAYA:

Controversial singer Wee Meng Chee, remanded as part of investigations into the murder probe of a Taiwanese social media influencer, has been released on police bail pending the completion of an autopsy report.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said Wee, better known as Namewee, was granted bail, which takes effect from today until Nov 26.

“Investigation papers will be referred back to the deputy public prosecutor’s office once the autopsy report is obtained,” he said in a statement today.

Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed yesterday that the rapper would be released on bail, as police investigations had yet to link him to Hsieh Yu-hsin’s death.

Hsieh was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur, where Wee had reportedly met her to discuss filming a video. The police said the two shared a “special relationship”, without offering details.

Wee surrendered himself to the police on Nov 5 after the case was reclassified as murder.

He was first arrested on Oct 22 after authorities discovered nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the hotel room.

Police said he later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.

Wee, who was charged with drug possession and consumption, pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of RM4,000 on each charge.
