KUALA LUMPUR: Local musician Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, was freed on police bail on Thursday (Nov 13).
The vehicle transporting the 42-year-old man was seen leaving Dang Wangi district police headquarters at about 3.50pm. Joshua Tay H’ng Foong, his lawyer, was also present.
He said his client went for a checkup at Kuala Lumpur Hospital at about 11am before returning to the district police headquarters three hours later.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that Namewee would be released on police bail while the full report of the post-mortem on Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi was being finalised.
“The Investigation paper will be referred again to the Attorney-General’s Chambers once the post-mortem report is obtained,” he said.
Police detained Namewee in connection with the death of Hsieh.
The police had reclassified the death of Hsieh as murder after the initial sudden death classification.
Investigations revealed that Namewee was the last person seen with the 31-year-old victim in a room at a hotel here at about 1.40pm on Oct 22.
He was later arrested for alleged possession and use of drugs, but was released after pleading not guilty to the drug-related charges at the Jalan Duta Court on Oct 24
