KUCHING, Aug 16 (Bernama) — The national takaful protection scheme, mySalam, has disbursed RM1.25 billion in claims to 1.74 million individuals since its inception in 2019.
MySalam head Syuhaib Ithnin said in a statement today that the figure demonstrated the scheme’s continued commitment to assisting those in need, particularly the B40 group, its primary target.
“Apart from providing cash benefits and health protection, this scheme also serves as a catalyst for financial awareness and risk management among low-income communities,” he said.
The statement was issued in conjunction with the 3K Carnival: Finance, Health and Welfare, held in Semariang here today.
Syuhaib said the 3K Carnival was organised not only to provide assistance but also to offer knowledge, access and opportunities for the community to improve their standard of living holistically.
Managed by Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB), mySalam organised the 3K Carnival on a large scale in conjunction with the National Month celebrations in Sarawak, attracting around 3,000 visitors from all walks of life.
The event, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican, Great Eastern Takaful CEO Shahrul Azlan Shahriman, and Malaysian Takaful Association CEO Mohd Radzuan Mohamed.
Syuhaib said the carnival reflected the MADANI Government’s efforts to strengthen the financial protection, health and welfare of the people, in line with its aspiration to build a prosperous, inclusive and resilient society.
He said the carnival also featured a range of high-impact activities for the community while providing information on the RM30 Perlindungan Tenang Voucher (PTV) for two million eligible Malaysians, with a total value exceeding RM60 million.
The PTV can be redeemed from Sept 1 to obtain a suitable takaful protection plan, including death benefits as an additional feature to the existing mySalam coverage.
It also offers free health services under the Peduli Kesihatan untuk Kumpulan B40 (PeKa B40) scheme, along with donations of 140 food baskets to asnaf families.
Other highlights of the carnival included environmental awareness briefings, traditional sports and games, and the Merdeka Run.
