Murdered Guar Chempedak couple stabbed 28 times in suspected jealous rage, say police

ALOR SETAR, Sept 14 — The man and woman who were murdered in Taman Nona, Guar Chempedak last Thursday were stabbed and slashed a combined 28 times, Kedah deputy police chief DCP Baderulhisham Baharudin revealed today.

Autopsies conducted on both victims at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s forensics unit here on Friday revealed the woman, 28, died as a result of a stab wound to the chest, while the man, 30, died after being stabbed in the neck.

“We believe jealousy is the motive of the incident as the woman sustained 20 injuries to the chest, neck, arms and legs due to stabbing and slashing, while about eight injuries were found on the man’s chest, neck and back,” he told reporters here today, adding that the police seized a knife bought by the suspect at a store believed to be used in the attack that was thrown away in the bushes in Sungai Petani before his arrest.

Checks revealed that the suspect, 29, was investigated under Section 323/427 of the Penal Code for trying to ram the male victim previously, he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded for six days from yesterday till Sept 17.

In a separate development, Baderulhisham shared that the police have managed to solve 31 cases of telecommunications cable theft in Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Yan and Padang Terap in the state, as well as Arau and Padang Besar, Perlis with the arrest of nine men and a woman.

The suspects, including a technician and a scrapyard owner, all confessed their involvement in the theft following a report about cable theft along Jalan Putra, here on August 24 that led to their arrest, he said.

“Investigations revealed two suspects, former subcontractors, disguised themselves as technicians by wearing security uniforms and entering the substation areas using copied keys.

“The cut cables were melted down and sold to the scrapyard owner at a price of RM25 to RM35 per kilogramme. Estimated losses by the company involved reach RM50,000 while seizures are valued at RM15,000,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 379/431 of the Penal Code.

Baderulhisham also said that the police arrested six men believed to be part of three motorcycle theft groups and solved 10 cases of motorcycle and component thefts in Kota Setar district.

The police also seized a stolen motorcycle, two motorcycle frames, several motorcycle components, including chopped up motorcycle frames, engines and rims.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A and 379A(1) of the Penal Code, he added. — Bernama
