JERLUN, Nov 1 — A 45-year-old farmer is believed to have been killed after he was allegedly attacked with a machete by his brother-in-law in Kampung Pida 3, near here, yesterday.

Kubang Pasu District Police chief Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said police received a report on the incident from a member of the public at about 7.05pm, stating there was a fight between two men.

“The suspect was arrested at his house and a 30-centimetre machete was seized. A body was found lying in a paddy field nearby.

“Before his arrest, the suspect, who was still holding the weapon, attempted to attack the police but surrendered after being persuaded for 15 minutes,” he told reporters last night.

Mohd Radzi said neither the victim nor the suspect had any prior criminal record, adding that the motive of the incident is still under investigation.

The victim’s body has been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for post-mortem, while the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Mohd Radzi also reminded the public not to spread unverified information about the incident. — Bernama
