Mumbai on high alert after WhatsApp bomb threat

NEW DELHI: Mumbai police are on high alert after receiving a WhatsApp message threatening multiple blasts across India’s financial capital.

The threat, received on Thursday, claimed that “human bombs” had been planted in 34 vehicles and warned the city would be “shaken” by the blasts. The sender further alleged that 14 terrorists had entered Mumbai and planted 400kg of RDX in vehicles for the attacks.

Senior police official Anil Dashrathrao Kumbhare said the threat is being investigated.

The city is currently celebrating the 10-day-long festival Anant Chaturdashi, which culminates on Saturday with the ritual immersion of idols.

Police have already made security arrangements for the millions of devotees expected to gather on the streets for the immersion ceremony. – BERNAMA
