Muhammadiyah University Lecturers Invited To Pursue Postgraduate Studies At UniMAP

From Shuhaida Mohd Said

BANDUNG, Sept 13 (Bernama) — Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has invited academics, particularly from the Muhammadiyah University (UM) network in Indonesia, to pursue studies at the Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) levels.

UniMAP deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international) Prof Dr Mohd Shukry Abdul Majid said the university is also offering fee reductions for lecturers or academics who register in groups.

“For example, if 20 lecturers register, UniMAP will provide a 20 per cent fee reduction. If the number is larger, a higher discount rate will be considered,” he told Bernama.

He said this after attending a discussion to explore collaboration opportunities between UniMAP and UM Bandung in conjunction with the UniMAP International Leadership Mobility 2025 here today.

During the visit, Mohd Shukry and UM Bandung rector Prof Dr Herry Suhardiyanto also formalised the exchange of a Letter of Intent, witnessed by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also UniMAP chancellor.

Also present was Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is also UniMAP pro-chancellor.

Mohd Shukry further said that besides lecturers from UM’s network of 170 universities across Indonesia, the university’s alumni are also invited to pursue studies at UniMAP in various fields.

“This collaboration not only enables lecturers to obtain a Master’s or PhD degree, but also facilitates joint academic publications between UM and UniMAP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said UM’s direction aligns with UniMAP’s aspiration to produce graduates who are well-balanced in terms of knowledge, skills and character, grounded in the values of integrity and leadership.

“I hope this visit opens up more avenues for academic collaboration between UniMAP and UM Bandung, particularly in student and lecturer exchanges, joint research in community development, technology and innovation, student leadership training programmes grounded in Islamic and humanitarian values, as well as social empowerment efforts that benefit communities in both countries,” he said.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also expressed confidence that the collaboration will strengthen scholarly ties and serve as a bridge to uplift the ummah in the ASEAN region.

Herry said UM Bandung was deeply honoured to receive the chancellor and his delegation today.

“This is a great honour for us, and we are ready to identify lecturers who need to raise their academic qualifications to strengthen existing capabilities,” he said.
