KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Federal lawmakers today observed a moment of silence in the Dewan Rakyat following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old schoolgirl by a 14-year-old schoolboy at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, two days ago.

‘s Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin told the Dewan Rakyat that he had read news reports in which the schoolgirl’s mother asked Malaysians to pray for her child.

Sim, a former deputy minister, then urged all MPs to “bertakafur” (meditate) briefly for the schoolgirl.

After the moment of silence, he proceeded with his debate on the proposed Budget 2026, highlighting incidents that had occurred in schools nationwide.

“Recently, various incidents happened, from Sabah, to Melaka, to , to today in Kedah, and also in Perak,” he said, adding that he was saddened by such events.

He then suggested that the Education Ministry reduce the administrative burden on form teachers, so they could focus on educating students and understanding their behaviour and emotions.

“And we reduce the administrative duties, reduce all the difficult work, such as going to courses, welcoming ministers, attending programmes. No, reduce it and focus on the education of our children,” he said.
