Motorcyclist dies after crashing into stationary lorry at traffic light in Miri

MIRI, Sept 28 — An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed after crashing into the rear of a lorry that was stopped at a red light along Jalan Airport here yesterday morning.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Abdullah said in a statement that a report was received regarding the fatal accident, which occurred around 10.15am.

He said initial police investigation at the scene found that the motorcyclist had crashed into the rear of the lorry while it was stationary at a red light.

“The motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene,” he added.

Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged members of the public with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting traffic officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim at 014-858 2582 or 085-430 479, or by approaching the nearest police station.

He also advised the public to promptly lodge a report whenever an accident occurs.

“Road users are reminded to always practice courteous driving and to comply with traffic rules and regulations at all times to avoid endangering other road users,” he said. — The Borneo Post
