KUALA LUMPUR: A mother and her daughter were among eight enforcement agency personnel arrested in Op Rentas in connection with a ‘counter setting’ syndicate, which was carried out simultaneously across four states since last Tuesday.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), via its official TikTok account today, said the mother and daughter were detained in an operation conducted by the Negri Sembilan MACC.

During the operation, the MACC also seized about RM80,000 in cash and jewellery worth approximately RM50,000 from the two officers.

“Also confiscated were telecommunication devices worth about RM20,000, two cars valued at about RM106,000 and two motorcycles worth about RM20,000.

“As for the other six suspects, comprising five men and a woman, the MACC also seized RM12,000 in cash, USD5,000 and 2,360 baht in foreign currency, in addition to telecommunication devices worth about RM29,000 and jewellery valued at around RM200,000,” it said.

At the same time, the agency said and Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) accounts amounting to about RM1 million were also frozen.

Meanwhile, MACC intelligence senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin said all the suspects were believed to have colluded with the ‘counter setting’ syndicate.

He said they were suspected of receiving bribes in exchange for facilitating the entry of foreign nationals into the country without adhering to the required procedures.
