MELAKA: A mother and daughter have been found dead in a multi-purpose vehicle at Jalan Solok Hilir in Paya Rumput here, believed to have suffocated after inhaling carbon monoxide.
Melaka Tengah police said Zabanah Abu Hussin, 57, and Intan Nur Shafiqah Othman, 25, were found unconscious in their vehicle by passers-by just after midnight on Thursday (Sept 18).
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said his men were alerted to the incident at 12.24am, and a patrol car was sent to the scene.
“Upon arrival, officers found two women inside the vehicle.
“Medical officers from Hospital Melaka confirmed the deaths of the mother and daughter, from Taman Kelemak Jaya in Alor Gajah here,” he said.
DCP Dzulkhairi said police believe the victims had stopped to rest without switching off the MPV’s engine.
“When they were found, the engine and air-conditioning were still running, with the windows shut,” he said, adding that the victims were both in the front seats.
DCP Dzulkhairi said the bodies were sent to Hospital Melaka for a post-mortem.
“Blood samples have also been sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis, including tests for carbon monoxide poisoning,” he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death for now.
