PETALING JAYA:

More than 800 staff of a government agency and their family members suffered from food poisoning during a family day event at a popular theme park in , according to a report.

Scoop reported that many of the attendees began experiencing symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting within an hour of consuming meals served during the event on Oct 4.

As a result, several victims including children, special needs individuals and the elderly were said to have been hospitalised for severe dehydration and diarrhoea.

The health department reportedly ordered the park’s kitchen to close for two weeks but allowed the park itself to continue operating – a decision which drew criticism as the investigation into the cause of the outbreak remains ongoing.

“Samples from the meal have been collected for testing and food handlers involved were questioned, but no samples of the water were taken,” a source was quoted as saying.

It is understood that the affected government agency is preparing to take legal action against the theme park’s owners and management, and that there has been no outreach by the park management to the agency to offer compensation for the incident.
