More than 10,000 policemen deployed for Asean Summit security operation


KUALA LUMPUR: Police have mounted one of its largest security operations this year through the 47th Asean Summit.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said they deployed a massive 10,170-strong force to ensure the smooth running and safety of the summit, which is set to take place this weekend.

“The deployment covers a wide range of departments and tactical units, including the Special Branch, Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID), Special Action Unit (UTK), 69 Commandos, Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), General Operations Force (GOF), and Air Wing Unit.

“Security coverage extends across strategic locations such as the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), , Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and official hotels housing international delegates,” he said at a press conference after a dry run for the summit’s security preparations at KLCC today.
