KOTA KINABALU:
The federal government has decided to add more parliamentary seats for Sabah and Sarawak ahead of the next general election (GE16), says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
However, the number of seats will not reach Sabah and Sarawak’s demand for one-third of the seats in the Dewan Rakyat, for now.
Anwar said this demand under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) needed to be studied further by the federal, and Sabah and Sarawak governments as there were different interpretations on the matter.
Previously, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof of Gabungan Parti Sarawak had said that Sabah and Sarawak can only be allocated one-third of the parliamentary seats after GE16.
